Several celebrities are boycotting social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to augment the awareness campaign ‘StopHateforProfit’.

A few social media forums have been propagating ‘hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and disinformation’. In June 2020, Facebook repudiated the banning of President Trump’s ‘When the looting starts, the shooting starts’ statement. Consequently, the ‘Stop Hate for Profit’ campaign was initiated in July 2020. It aims to spread awareness and moreover, prevent global intolerance. Moreover, it seeks to ‘prioritize people over profit’ and advocate a lack of bias for a change.

Multinational conglomerates like Adidas, Chipotle, Coca-Cola, Dunkin Donuts, Ford, Hersheys, Lego, Puma, Starbucks and countless others are also a part of the movement.

Celebrities Suspend their Accounts for 24 Hours

Countless celebrities like Robert Downey Jr., Viola Davis, Michelle Monaghan, Kim Kardashian West and several others have suspended their Facebook and Instagram accounts in support of the movement.

Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact. I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation – created by groups to sow division and split America apart. Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy.

Stopping Hate Speech

I’m standing with NAACP, Color of Change, and the Anti-Defamation League and will be freezing my Instagram and Facebook accounts on Wednesday, September 16th to tell Facebook to #StopHateForProfit. Will you join me?! Link in bio for more info on how to preserve the truth.
