Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first-ever European footballer to score 100 international goals.

In yesterday’s football match, Portugal beat Sweden by 2-0 in a UEFA Nations League group match. However, the match saw the achievement of a huge landmark for European football as the Portugal captain reached the landmark of 100 goals with the help of the 57th freekick goal of his career.

No European footballer has ever scored 100 goals in the international matches, but the Portuguese starlet -Ronaldo has become the first in history to do so.

Portugal Vs Sweden

Last night, Portugal and Sweden had an interesting match. Portugal got a freekick at the 45th minute, and their skipper -Ronaldo beautifully curled it into the top corner of the net,  making a huge record for the European football world. But, Cristiano did not stop there, he continued attacking his opposition and tested Sweden’s defense line.

Alongside this, the 35-year old Juventus forward scored his second goal of the game in the 72nd minute. He shot the ball from outside the box to make his overall goal tally 101 in the International circuit.

Moreover, Sweden was hosting Portugal at Friends Arena, last night. They were not allowed to score by the Portuguese team and suffered a 2-0 defeat at their home. Both the teams will meet again in Nations League matchday 4, due in October this year.

Ronaldo was subbed off after playing 81 minutes with a young striker, Diogo Jota. The game ended in a victory for Portugal who will now face France in matchday 3 of the Nations League in coming October.

Some insight on International goals record

Currently, Iran’s Ali Daei holds the record of most goals in International matches. He was the first footballer to score 100 goals in the international circuit.

During his thirteen-year career for Iran from 1993 till 2006, he netted 109 goals in total, which is still the highest number of goals in international games.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo trail by eight goals from this record. With this form and fitness, many experts think this record will soon be taken over by the Portuguese talisman. But, the only concern is his age as Ronaldo is 35 right now, still playing top level of football in the Italian league, Serie A, for Juventus.

Among the active players, Sunil Chhetri is second with 72 goals and Lionel Messi is third with 70 goals.

Here is an interesting stat that makes everyone baffled. Since turning 30, Cristiano has scored half of his international goals. To put it into numbers, he has scored 49 goals in the 47 games that he has played after turning 30.

Out of his 101 international goals, 54 have come out of his right foot. He has scored 22 goals with his thunderous left foot. In addition, he used his brilliant heading ability to add 25 goals to his international tally.
