The Punjab Government has made the Double-Decker bus service functional with an aim to boost tourism in twin cities.

On Sunday, the latest tourist appealing double-decker bus rolled out marking its very first tour of the twin cities for specially-abled children.

The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) along with the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHC) managed to officially start the service from Allama Iqbal Park, following the directives of Punjab Chief -Minister Usman Buzdar.

Initially, only two double-decker buses will be operational from Allama Iqbal Park and Shamsabad bringing tourists to Constitution Avenue via Shakarparian. Additionally, in the second phase, two more buses will be procured.

However, TDCP will bear all the expenditure.

Double-Decker inaugural ceremony:

Asif Mehmood -an adviser to the Punjab CM on culture and tourism, initiates the service. Besides the minister, there were PTI MPAs, and students come upon the twin cities via the bus service.

Furthermore, Mr. Mehmood told Dawn that the government decided to launch double-decker buses because it wants to promote the culture of the Potohar region.

Addressing the public, Asif Mehmood congratulated the citizens of the Islamabad and Rawalpindi that the bus service rolled out.

He further briefs that the target of the double-decker service is to encourage tourism in the region. Also, the service will enable local and foreign tourists to view the aesthetic scenery of the Islamabad and Pindi.

Mehmood added that the service will commence in peak after the holy month of Muharram ends.

Previously on August 14, he explained that route and importance of the service started by the Punjab government.

“Initially, two buses will be operated and local people can benefit from this plan as well. On Independence Day, the officials conducted a trial. However, we are expecting the formal inauguration soon,” he added.

Later, he joined the specially-abled children aboard the bus as it completed one circuit along its predetermined route around the twin cities. The special children, from different institutions, enjoyed the ride aboard the tourist bus service.
