The Pakistan Accountability Court designated the Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif as a proclaimed offender on September 9, Wednesday.
The Accountability Court also accused Ex-President Asif Ali Zardari and Yousaf Raza Gillani for Toshakhana Vehicle Reference.
Further, the court has issued a permanent arrest warrant against former PM Nawaz for not showing up before the court. Additionally, the court investigated the process to repossess Ex-PM’s properties and ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to arrest him via Interpol.
The investigation officer proved that the alleged former PM Nawaz deliberately absconded the court hearings. Thus, the Court stated,
Hence, this case is hereby separated…and he is declared as a proclaimed offender.
Furthermore, the court ordered the officer to submit a list of his movable and immovable possessions in ten days. The court also terminated his application to pursue exemption from appearing personally.
The court further stated that it reserves the right to freeze former PM Nawaz’s assets upon his continuous absence from the court.
The Court Proceedings
This case was stabilized over the allegations against Ex-President Asif Ali Zardari, Abdul Ghani Majeed, and Yousaf Raza Gillani as they showed up in court.
Another suspect of the case, Khawaja Anwar Majeed attended the hearing virtually via Skype.
As per the charge sheet, the Ex-PM Gillani was accused for giving directions to the cabinet’s secretary to provide relaxation to former PM Nawaz and Mr. Zardari in purchasing luxury vehicles.
According to NAB, Ex-President Zardari and Ex-PM Nawaz obtained those vehicles by only paying 15% of the total amount.
Thus, NAB charged Ex-President Zardari and Mr. Gillani,
They abuse their position as a holder of public office, in conspiracy with the co-accused Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani…[and] dishonestly sought and obtained relaxation over receiving and clearing of luxury items.
The court also alleged Ghani Majeed for accepting funds up to 57 million rupees through money laundering. He made illegal transactions for the cost and duty of the gifted vehicles.
However, the court has adjourned the session until September 24, ordering three NAB witnesses Zubair Siddiqui, Imran Zafar, and Waqar ul Hasan Shah to appear in the next hearing.
The Counsel to Ex-PM Nawaz presents a Medical Report

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed Toshakhana Reference in March 2020.
