The journalists and civil society members protested against the illegal imprisonment of Geo and Jang Group’s Chief-In-Editor -Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and demanded his immediate emancipation.
The protesters continued their voices carrying banners, placards, and raised slogans against the federal government. They strongly lash out NAB regarding the unjustified custody of Shakil-ur-Rehman
Furthermore, they also criticize the government’s policy to convulse the media.
Protest for Mir Shakil in Rawalpindi:
The protestors held a peaceful demonstration outside the Jang and The News offices in Rawalpindi.
While protesting, President of Jang workers Union Rawalpindi -Nasir Chishti lashes out the government. He said conspirators have failed on their grounds and those who were planning against the Geo and Jang Group will be exposed soon. The workers are uniting to counter all the theories against the Media group.
He further said that the Movement for Justice of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman will carry on until justice is given.
Hanif Khalid -Resident Editor Jang Rawalpindi said those who wished to plot against the media group have failed to fulfill their dreams. All the workers stand unitedly to protect the Media house. He said,
From Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman to Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, the Jang Group always did independent journalism.
Moreover, the senior journalists, civil society members, and trade unions have strongly declared this as a deplorable act. They called the NAB-Niazi nexus under which they had imprisoned Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman in a political case for the last 174 days with an impasse. The protesters were protesting in heavy rainfall.
Protest demanding Justice for Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman in Lahore:
In Lahore, workers on Friday dissent against the illegal imprisonment of their head Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman. PUJ (Burna Group) President Qamar Zaman Bhatti, Secretary Jang Workers Union Muhammad Farooq, and people from different sectors of life protested against the detention.
Protesters in their speeches demanded the release of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman. They termed his detention as a violation of human rights. Also, they said there is no accusation against Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and called for his immediate release. His detention is a reflection on the state of human rights in Pakistan.
In addition, they called upon the court to take notice of his arrest and vowed to continue their protest until his release.
